Microsoft upgrades Surface Pro and Laptop with Snapdragon X2 Plus, raising prices

Microsoft has launched second-edition versions of its 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop, preserving the prior year’s chassis and port layout while integrating Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X2 Plus six-core system-on-chip. The processor is marketed to provide up to 18% longer battery life—adding an extra hour of web browsing on the Pro (total 13 hours) and two hours on the Laptop (total 18 hours)—alongside more than 60% faster graphics and up to 95% faster local AI inference.

Both devices now start with 16 GB of RAM, with options up to 24 GB, and the low-end 8 GB model has been dropped, contributing to higher launch prices of $1,149.99 for the Pro and $1,199.99 for the Laptop. The Pro’s 12-inch LCD screen remains 2196 × 1464 at up to 90 Hz, while the Laptop’s 13-inch display stays at 1920 × 1280 and 60 Hz; both panels see brightness increase from 400 to 500 nits. Connectivity features Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two USB-C 3.2 ports, with the Laptop also offering a USB-A 3.2 port and a headphone jack. An optional 5G variant is available for the Pro, and a black color option returns alongside platinum silver and violet.
