Middle East container freight from South Korea climbs in August amid regional conflict

Data from the Korea Customs Service show that the average price for moving a 40-foot container from South Korea to the Middle East climbed to 8.83 million won in August, a 1.7% increase over the prior month. This uptick follows a steady rise that began in March and is attributed to the lingering geopolitical tension in the region. Shipping charges to the United States also shifted, with west-coast rates up 0.5% to 8.58 million won and east-coast rates surging 24.8% to 9.97 million won.
Conversely, costs for containers bound for the European Union dropped 9.4% to 5 million won. The reported amounts cover freight fees, commissions and other charges submitted by local exporters. These movements illustrate how regional instability is influencing global trade logistics and pricing.
