Migros seeks buyers for 24 German Tegut stores after antitrust limits Edeka deal
The German competition authority barred Edeka from acquiring 24 Tegut locations, prompting Migros Zürich to look for new purchasers for those stores.
Migros Zürich announced that it will need to identify new buyers for 24 Tegut supermarkets in Germany after the Bundeskartellamt limited Edeka's acquisition. While the regulator cleared Edeka to take over 178 stores, it imposed a four-year restriction on the remaining 24 locations to address competition concerns. The approved transaction also comprises 41 Teo automated stores, the Herzberger Bäckerei and a logistics hub.
Migros described the divestiture as proceeding according to plan and reaffirmed its withdrawal from the German grocery sector. The Tegut headquarters in Fulda is slated to close in spring 2027, with remaining assets to be handled through social plans. Other buyers, such as Tante Enso and possibly Rewe, are already engaged for additional stores.
