Mike Ashley pushes near-majority stake in Hugo Boss as luxury expansion continues
Frasers Group, owned by Mike Ashley, lifted its Hugo Boss holding to 48% after a €38-per-share offer, falling short of outright control.
Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group has expanded its position in Hugo Boss to 48%, after a €38-per-share proposal convinced 17.6% of shareholders to sell. The offer, which only added a 4% premium, was previously rejected by the company’s board as insufficient. Analysts say the increased holding brings Frasers closer to controlling the German brand, and the Hugo Boss chair expressed appreciation for the long-term partnership.
The stake increase follows Frasers’ recent £40 million purchase of Harvey Nichols and its broader push into upscale fashion, including stakes in Flannels and Mulberry. If full control is eventually achieved, Hugo Boss would join a portfolio that already contains Sports Direct, Evans Cycles and former House of Fraser stores. Ashley’s wealth rose by £317 million last year, underscoring his growing influence in the luxury sector.
Why it matters
The deal signals a major UK retailer’s deepening influence over a leading German luxury brand, potentially reshaping its strategy and market position.
