White-ball head coach Mike Hesson, who arrived in London with Director of High Performance Aqib Javed, is expected to assume responsibility for the red-ball side, possibly on a longer-term basis. Sources indicate Hesson will be present in the dressing room for the September 9 match in Birmingham.

The appointment puts current Test coach Sarfaraz Ahmed in jeopardy, with the possibility of his removal after the England tour. The Pakistan Cricket Board has not issued an official statement, and the team also sees opening batsmen Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan sent home, while Saim Ayub and Arafat Minhas are called up.
