Milpitas woman charged with two murders after stabbing and vehicular killing
Anila Baby, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder after allegedly stabbing one woman and running over another in separate incidents on the same morning in Northern California.
Authorities in Santa Clara County have charged Anila Baby, 32, of Milpitas with two murders after a series of violent acts on Aug. 28. Around midday, Milpitas police responded to a report of an SUV hitting a woman in an apartment complex parking lot; the victim, Anjana Hari, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses said the driver accelerated into the woman and fled.
Baby was later found in the vehicle, incoherent and blood-stained, and arrested at a nearby Walgreens lot. Approximately two hours later, Ann Matthew, 39, was discovered dead in her San Jose home, showing signs of stabbing, strangulation and head injury. Surveillance video from the home showed deleted clips, a sandal matching Baby’s, and her car in the area.
DNA testing linked blood on Baby’s pants to Hari, and cellphone data placed Baby at Matthew’s house earlier that morning. Baby was arraigned without bail, with a next hearing set for Nov. 17.
