Minecraft creator Markus Persson shifts from AI skeptic to experimenting with AI coding

The founder of Minecraft, Markus Persson, previously argued that AI-driven programming was a bad concept and criticized its advocates. In response to a hack of Mojang Studios co-founder Jakob Porsér’s X account, which promoted AI coding, Persson questioned the hype surrounding the technology. By mid-July he hinted at trying "vibe coding" because of difficulties recruiting skilled developers and a willingness to replace a human coder with a chatbot.

Within days he posted a conversation about potential applications for the Claude AI system and reflected on his earlier anti-AI statements. Persson later posted a chat log, acknowledging that he might need to give the technology a chance while remaining cautious about fully embracing it.
