Minister says nearly 200 high schools to close amid student protests
The education minister announced that close to 200 secondary schools will be shut or blocked as a precaution following recent student demonstrations.
In response to a fresh wave of high school and university mobilisations, the minister of Education nationale reported that roughly 200 secondary schools are slated for preventive closures or blockades. While the majority of institutions stay operational, the closures aim to curb further disruptions. To address the demonstrators' demands, authorities have opened a digital consultation site where citizens can submit comments until the end of the month.
The platform has already attracted a substantial number of contributions. The minister also highlighted that he has authorised additional teacher recruitments and that several schools have received substitute staff, though he rejected calls to dismantle the Parcoursup system, indicating that any reforms are still under consideration.
