Minister urges patience as Great British Energy expands job creation and investments

During a visit by King Charles III to Great British Energy’s new headquarters in Aberdeen, Minister Michael Shanks urged the public to show patience regarding the company’s long-term delivery. He pointed out that the state-owned firm, created last year, has already backed roughly 1,500 jobs through its investment activities and has invested nearly a quarter of a billion pounds in solar projects for schools and hospitals.

The minister also announced a £750,000 allocation for skills, training and employability programmes in the north-east of Scotland. Shanks clarified that Great British Energy was always intended to be an investor and generator, not a direct energy supplier, and that job creation will extend beyond the Aberdeen office. He praised the King’s visit as a milestone that puts the company on the map and underscored its role in the region’s clean-energy transition.
