Ministry urges PTPTN borrowers in arrears to seek restructuring or deferment

The Ministry of Higher Education invites borrowers struggling with PTPTN loan arrears to apply for restructuring or deferment under existing flexibilities.

The Ministry of Higher Education announced that individuals unable to meet PTPTN loan repayments may seek loan restructuring or deferment, using the flexibilities permitted by law. According to the ministry, arrears amount to RM10.7 billion involving 1.16 million borrowers as of 31 August 2026. The statement responded to a parliamentary question from Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun about one outlet debt burden.

Officials emphasized ongoing initiatives to keep the PTPTN fund sustainable, including tighter loan management and targeted terms for those in need. They also pledged to improve collection efficiency through enforcement actions and strategic partnerships with government and corporate bodies. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to support borrowers facing genuine financial hardship.
