Minority politicians quit Oslo Venstre over weak candidate list for 2027 election

All current minority representatives have withdrawn from Oslo Venstre, protesting a nomination list they say offers insufficient representation.

Oslo Venstre's nomination committee released its proposed slate for the 2027 city council election, placing candidates with immigrant backgrounds only in the 9th and 10th spots. In response, every sitting minority representative resigned, arguing that the list makes campaigning in Oslo east impossible. Rodas Tadese Sibahtu said he cannot support a list with such limited representation.

Why it matters

The walkout signals a credibility crisis for Oslo Venstre on minority inclusion ahead of a key local election.
