MIPP asserts independent path, refuses to be PAS subordinate within PN

In a statement, deputy president S Subramaniam declared that the Malaysian Indian Party (MIPP) possesses its own leadership, organisational framework, expertise and political agenda, including advocacy for Indian Malaysians, and that its participation in Perikatan Nasional (PN) stems from a political understanding rather than obedience to any single party. He affirmed the coalition’s strength while insisting MIPP will not wait for other parties to determine its future.

Citing an FMT report, analysts warned MIPP and Gerakan could follow PAS if PN falters, a view Subramaniam dismissed, saying any shift will be judged on the party’s and its constituents’ interests. He highlighted the recent suspension of PN activities by the Registrar of Societies (JPPM) and reiterated that cooperation with PAS and other PN components is based on mutual respect, with each party retaining distinct identity and voice.

Subramaniam also rejected the notion that MIPP relies solely on party symbols or seat allocations, stressing the party’s focus on strengthening grassroots roots and offering an alternative platform for the Indian community. The party will continue collaboration while preserving its principles and representation.
