Missing Squamish Hiker Calls 911, Says He Is Stuck on Mountain

Stanislav Volo vanished on Sunday after disembarking the Sea-to-Sky Gondola in Squamish at roughly 11:30 a.m. to hike the Mount Habrich Loop. A large search operation involving volunteers, RCMP, Squamish Search and Rescue, drones, helicopters and police dogs has been underway. On Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m., Volo’s sister Ola reported that a brief 911 call was logged, during which he identified himself and said he was stuck on the mountain; the call’s brevity is attributed to poor cell coverage.

Family members described Volo as a devoted father and husband, and emphasized belief that he is alive and trying to stay warm. Search manager Tyler Duncan noted the area’s technical terrain—numerous gullies, canyons and boulder fields—makes locating him extremely challenging, describing an “infinite number of places” he could be. A missed call to his wife around 4:30 p.m. on the day he disappeared suggests he may have lost signal after descending from the ridgeline. RCMP have asked anyone with information to contact them.
