Mississippi investigation into toddler's fatal shooting sent to Attorney General

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has wrapped up its examination of the Senatobia Police Department's fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley and sent the results to Attorney General Lynn Fitch. Interim chief Angelica Maze indicated that Fitch will determine the timing of any additional disclosures. Should the attorney general choose to move forward, the findings will be submitted to a state grand jury for a decision on possible criminal charges.

Activist Patrick Lumumba criticized the statement for not addressing community demands, noting that no body-camera or surveillance video has been released. The shooting occurred after two women, including Wiley's mother Vellesiya Wiley, were accused of shoplifting, and officers converged on their car, resulting in multiple gunshots that struck the vehicle, the driver, and the toddler. Law enforcement has remained largely silent, and only an eyewitness video has surfaced, which officials have not contacted.
