Missouri Fire Assistant Charged with Murder After Secret Video Shows Abuse
Assistant fire chief Jeremy Perrien was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after investigators uncovered a hidden video on his wife’s phone that documented domestic violence.
Scott County’s assistant fire chief, Jeremy Perrien, 45, was arrested on Aug. 21 and indicted on multiple felonies, among them second-degree murder, felony harassment, domestic assault and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. For more than a year he told investigators that his 31-year-old wife, Shelby Perrien, had committed suicide with a.380 handgun while they were driving from a bar in Cape Girardeau on June 25, 2025.
Subsequent forensic testing of blood spatter in the vehicle showed the shooting could not have been self-inflicted, prompting a deeper probe. Detectives unlocked a hidden folder on Shelby’s phone, revealing a 90-second video in which Jeremy is seen choking, striking and verbally threatening her. Additional threatening texts and the discovery of the video led authorities to file the murder charge. Perrien is being held without bond at the Stoddard County Jail, while the Scott County sheriff’s office emphasized the community’s need for truth.
