Mistrial declared in 2007 Adelaide birthday party stabbing case

A South Australian Supreme Court judge has declared a mistrial in the murder trial of Kimlong Rim, accused of killing 21-year-old Thea Kheav at a 2007 birthday party.

Kimlong Rim, 38, had pleaded not guilty to the alleged stabbing death of Thea Kheav, who was attending an 18th birthday celebration in Parafield Gardens, Adelaide, in December 2007. The trial proceeded in South Australia's Supreme Court until Justice Rachael Gray announced a mistrial. The judge indicated that the case will be retried at a later date. No new evidence was presented, and the decision resets the legal process for the nearly two-decade-old case.

Why it matters

The mistrial resets a long-standing murder case, affecting the victim's family and the accused's legal future.
