Mitsotakis unveils four measures: fuel subsidy boost, longer loan plans and tighter servicer rules
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced four new actions covering fuel subsidies, heating oil pricing, loan repayment extensions and stricter oversight of debt servicers.
In a cabinet session held at the Maximos Hall, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented four policy steps aimed at easing household expenses and tightening creditor practices. The first measure extends the maximum number of installments for qualifying loans from 72 to 120, requiring borrowers to pay at least 30 euros each month. The second imposes harsher conditions on debt-servicing firms: any violation of a contract will trigger its cancellation, a fine of up to 500,000 euros and a credit of five extra installments to the consumer.
Third, the government will keep heating oil prices below 1.75 euros per litre, with the precise ceiling to be announced before 15 October. Finally, the subsidy on gasoline at the pump will rise from ten to fifteen cents per litre, and combined with discounts offered by refineries the total discount is expected to reach around twenty cents for the first fifteen days of October. These steps are intended to protect borrowers and reduce energy costs during the winter months.
