MNB Governor Varga announces further document handover to parliamentary probe

Varga Mihály, governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, announced via a Facebook video that the institution has supplied the parliamentary investigation committee with another substantial collection of documents concerning its former management. The request focused on data about foundations established during the previous tenure, the allocation of assets, and how those assets were utilized. Varga stressed that one outlet board is dedicated to operating within the law and ensuring transparency, offering all necessary information to aid the committee's work.

The probe, led by Csőszi Attila, also overlaps with a criminal inquiry by the Központi Nyomozó Főügyészség into suspected misconduct under former governor Matolcsy György, which has already led to asset seizures worth several tens of billions of forints. The ongoing investigation has been highlighted in multiple reports and a documentary that examined how public funds may have been misdirected.
