MNB revokes Trive Bank Europe's licence and orders liquidation
The Magyar Nemzeti Bank cancelled Trive Bank Europe Zrt.'s operating licence and appointed a state liquidator to wind down the institution.
The Magyar Nemzeti Bank has withdrawn the operating licence of Trive Bank Europe Zrt. and ordered its dissolution, assigning the state-run Financial Stability and Liquidation Nonprofit Ltd. as liquidator. Regulators said the bank's capital position could no longer support continued market operations, given its focus on low-value online personal loans. The institution's loan book represents a tiny fraction of Hungary's total banking volume, and it serves fewer than one hundred depositors.
Deposit insurance will be applied according to law, with the deposit guarantee fund handling eligible claims without requiring applications. The bank entered the Hungarian market in 2023 after acquiring and renaming the former Sopron Bank, but its limited scale means the closure will not affect the national financial sector.
Why it matters
The licence revocation ends a small lender's operations, highlighting regulatory oversight of niche banking services.
