Mock iPhone Fold prototype goes viral ahead of Apple’s September 9 event

A Chinese-made iPhone Fold mock-up shown by Unbox Therapy has attracted over 1.9 million views, though it is not the final product Apple will release.

Unbox Therapy’s Lewis Hilsenteger posted a video that quickly amassed 1.9 million views, showcasing a Chinese mock-up of a foldable iPhone. The device folds like a book, offering a front cover display and a larger internal screen that opens to tablet size, with estimated dimensions of roughly 5.5 inches outside and 7.8 inches inside. A pronounced crease runs through the inner panel, and the rear houses two camera lenses, while additional buttons near the hinge may relate to folding or photography functions.

Hilsenteger noted that prototype quality from China is improving but cautioned that the final retail version will differ. Leaked reports hint at a price exceeding $2,000, and Apple is expected to unveil the official iPhone Fold, along with new iPhone 18 models, at its September 9 ‘Surprise and Shine’ event.

Why it matters

The viral mock-up fuels speculation about Apple’s first foldable phone and its potential market impact.
