Moderna shares soar as experimental melanoma vaccine shows promising results
Moderna's stock more than doubled after the company reported that its mRNA melanoma vaccine, tested with Merck's Keytruda, prevented cancer recurrence in high-risk patients.
Moderna disclosed that its personalized mRNA vaccine, intismeran, given with Merck’s checkpoint inhibitor Keytruda, delayed recurrence and distant spread of melanoma in a Phase 3 adjuvant study of patients whose tumors had been surgically removed. The trial, described as the first randomized evaluation of a neoantigen‑based mRNA vaccine, reported longer periods without disease and fewer spread events. Following the announcement, Moderna’s shares rose sharply and Merck’s shares also increased. Both companies plan to present the data at a scientific meeting.
