On October 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will remotely inaugurate five major development initiatives in Ladakh valued at roughly ₹3,350 crore. The projects include a modern passenger terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, constructed at a cost of ₹640 crore and equipped with geothermal systems to lower its carbon footprint while handling 35 lakh travelers annually. A 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road, completed by the Border Roads Organisation, will create an alternative corridor through the Zanskar Valley, improving connectivity for residents and strengthening logistical support for the armed forces.
Energy infrastructure will be bolstered by the 9 MW Hanu Small Hydroelectric Project and the 66 kV Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi double-circuit transmission line, enhancing power reliability in the region. Cultural preservation is addressed through India’s first petroglyph conservation park at Sindhu Ghat, safeguarding prehistoric rock art. Finally, Project Him Sarovar will see the creation of 40 water bodies across villages to mitigate seasonal water scarcity and support agriculture.
