Modi urges global chip leaders to boost India's semiconductor sector and AI talent

Ahead of the 2026 Semicon India exhibition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened senior executives from a wide range of semiconductor companies, including Micron, Infineon, Applied Materials, ASML, Merck, Tokyo Electron, Fujifilm, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Lam Research, Rapidus, NXP, Foxconn, Semi Conductor Devices, Advantest, Celesta Capital, CG Power and IBM Research. The gathering, hosted at Seva Teerth, also featured representatives from the global industry body SEMI.

Modi praised India's robust semiconductor talent pool and called on the firms to intensify participation in workforce training, research and emerging technologies such as AI and quantum computing. He reiterated the government's commitment to a stable, responsive policy framework that adapts to industry needs. Attendees were invited to submit policy suggestions, which the government said would be considered in future sector-strengthening measures. The upcoming Semicon India event expects participation from over 500 companies across 20 countries and more than ten Indian states.
