Moldovan investigators link crashed drone to Russian ‘Gheran’ model after cross-border flight

Moldovan police report that a turbo-reactor drone that entered from Romania exploded in Râșcani, leaving a large crater and metal pellets.

Authorities in the Republic of Moldova have uncovered new evidence about a drone that crossed from Romania near Iași and detonated in the Râșcani district. The aerial vehicle featured a turbo-reactive propulsion system and bore resemblance to the Russian “Gheran” drones deployed in the Ukraine war. Examination of the impact site in the outskirts of Mihăilenii Vechi revealed a large crater and metal pellets described as “annihilation elements”.

Specialists are still determining the exact type and mass of the explosive payload. The blast ignited four fires in a nearby sunflower field, though no one was hurt. The zone was cordoned off, and two Spanish F-18 fighters from Base 57 Mihail Kogălniceanu were dispatched to monitor the situation.
