Molson Coors to Shut Ostravar Brewery, Shift Production to Prague Facility
Molson Coors' Czech arm will wind down brewing at Ostravar in Ostrava, moving its key brands to the Smíchov brewery.
Molson Coors, through its subsidiary Pivovary Staropramen, announced that the Ostravar brewery in Ostrava will be gradually phased out due to declining demand and higher operating expenses. The decision follows an analysis of costs and aims to improve efficiency across its Czech brewing network. Roughly 120 employees tied to the brewing process will lose their positions, but the firm has set up a assistance scheme in cooperation with the regional office of Úřad práce ČR. Brewing of Ostravar’s flagship beers, including Original 10°, Ostravar 12°, Mustang variants and Černá Barbora, will be relocated to the Smíchov brewery under the guidance of the former chief brewer. While production moves, local warehouses, distribution capacity and the sales force will remain active in the Moravskoslezský kraj, preserving customer service and market presence.
Why it matters
The closure affects 120 jobs and shifts a historic Czech beer brand to a new production site, reshaping the local brewing landscape.
