Moms for Liberty sues New Jersey district over concealed gender transition policy

Moms for Liberty filed a federal case asserting that the School District of the Chathams Board of Education’s Policy 5145.7 allows school counselors to conceal a student’s gender transition from parents and to connect families with outside LGBTQ advocacy groups without notice. The complaint contends the policy breaches the First Amendment’s free-exercise and free-speech clauses as well as the Fourteenth Amendment’s due-process guarantee.

Represented by the Thomas More Society, the suit was lodged in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Senior counsel Christopher Ferrara cited a prior Supreme Court victory as a reason to challenge such practices. Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, said the district’s actions undermine parental rights and conflict with Supreme Court rulings. The district has not responded to requests for comment.
