Mondelez pours RM90 million into new Crumb Tower at Shah Alam Cadbury plant

Mondelez International is investing RM90 million to expand its Cadbury factory in Shah Alam, adding a high-tech Crumb Tower that will produce chocolate crumb locally.

Mondelez International announced a RM90 million investment to enlarge its Cadbury plant in Shah Alam, Selangor, highlighted by the launch of a new Crumb Tower. The facility combines a sealed high-capacity powder system, Malaysia's first T-reactor of its design, and an advanced fat-handling unit, all meeting international quality and Halal standards. This automation drive is intended to meet rising demand in Malaysia and overseas, reducing the need to import chocolate crumb from markets such as South Africa and Australia.

The project also supports skill development for Malaysian engineers and operators and qualifies local suppliers for global Mondelez contracts. State officials said the investment underscores Selangor's appeal as a long-term manufacturing hub and aligns with plans to boost technical education by 2030.

Why it matters

The investment upgrades local food manufacturing, creates high-skill jobs and lessens dependence on imported chocolate ingredients.
