Monroe Township police look for owner of wandering two-foot tortoise

Police in Monroe Township discovered a large sand-colored tortoise near Church and Academy Streets and are asking the public for help identifying its owner.

A sizable sand-colored tortoise was found roaming alone near the intersection of Church and Academy Streets in Monroe Township, prompting a response from local police. The Monroe Township Police Department described the creature as about two feet wide and three feet long, and shared several images under a playful headline. Officers secured the animal without incident and posted the encounter online, inviting the community to help locate its owner.

They asked anyone with information to contact the Monroe Township Police Department or the Gloucester County Animal Shelter. The post also referenced a similar missing sulcata tortoise reported in Monmouth County, though no connection has been confirmed.
