State Emergency Operations Centre data indicate that monsoon rains have claimed 259 lives and inflicted damage worth more than Rs 1,200 crore across Himachal Pradesh in a span of 64 days. The flooding has crippled the water distribution system, leaving 40 supply schemes out of operation, including 23 in Hamirpur and 17 in Shimla. Road connectivity has deteriorated sharply, with 150 routes currently blocked and 153 road-traffic deaths recorded during the same timeframe.
Emergency teams are actively working to restore the affected water schemes and clear the obstructed roads. Local officials caution that further rainfall could worsen the already severe situation.
