Monsoon rains bring thunderstorms to Delhi-NCR and worsen floods in Bihar

Meteorologists at the India Meteorological Department have identified a low-pressure zone over the northwest and the west-central Bay of Bengal, forecasting rain for large parts of northern and central India on Saturday. Areas such as Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka can expect light to moderate showers, with heavier rain possible over the next two to three days.

The system is also generating strong winds of 50-60 km/h, gusting up to 70 km/h, along the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, while a yellow warning has been issued for Baleshwar as Puri experiences heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Bihar’s flood situation has worsened, with the Disaster Management Department reporting that about 48 lakh residents in 15 districts are affected as the Ganga and other rivers exceed danger levels.

The state has recorded 104.1 mm of rain in September so far, and forecasts call for partly cloudy skies with continued strong winds. Adjacent Uttar Pradesh districts also face flood impacts, and scattered rain is expected in Rajasthan and other regions through mid-September.
