Monsoon-triggered landslide in Mumbai kills six and injures four

Intense monsoon rain in Mumbai triggered a landslide in the Ghatkopar neighbourhood before dawn, collapsing a hillside onto a cluster of houses. Civic official Tanaji Kambli reported that the slide struck two or three homes, prompting an immediate rescue effort involving firefighters, police, the National Disaster Response Force and municipal officials. Narrow access routes hampered the deployment of heavy machinery, but teams managed to extract at least ten individuals from the debris.

Six people, among them two children and two teenagers, were declared dead on arrival, and four others were hospitalized at a government facility. Mayor Ritu Tawde inspected the scene and pledged monetary aid to the families of those killed. The weather department warned that monsoon activity will remain strong across western India, urging residents in vulnerable zones to stay vigilant.
