Montreal police capture suspect in 2025 stabbing murder while in Mexico

Montreal police announced the arrest of Gabriel Lavoie in Mexico, charging him with a 2025 homicide that left a 34-year-old man dead.

Montreal police confirmed the capture of Gabriel Lavoie, 22, in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, where he was arrested on a murder warrant. Lavoie is wanted for a stabbing that occurred shortly after midnight on March 14, 2025, in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough, near Ontario and Saint-Germain streets. The victim, a 34-year-old man, suffered a lower-body stab wound and died in hospital overnight, marking the city’s fifth homicide of the year.

Earlier arrests of Dave Lambert-Chouinard and Valdano Saint-Hillien resulted in manslaughter charges, but police have been searching for a third suspect. Lavoie has been remanded pending extradition, and investigators continue to request public assistance.
