Monty Don Announces Final Gardeners' World Series, Fans React with Heartbreak

Monty Don announced via Instagram that this season will be his last on Gardeners' World, sparking an emotional response from viewers.

In an Instagram video, Monty Don revealed that the present series of Gardeners' World will be his farewell to the show, marking the end of a tenure that began in 2003 and moved to his Longmeadow garden in Herefordshire in 2011. He highlighted his enjoyment of creating over seven hundred programmes and thanked one outlet for a rewarding partnership, noting he will still work with the network in the future. It was confirmed that his final episode is scheduled for later this year.

Viewers responded with a mixture of shock, gratitude and humor, with comments ranging from “not allowed to leave” jokes to heartfelt thanks for his knowledge. Presenter Kate Thornton described the news as a “horticultural tragedy,” while fans expressed how unprepared they were for the change. Don’s long-running presence, alongside his dogs Ned and the late Patti, has become a staple of British gardening television.
