Most Nepal government sites restored after critical PHP2Shell patch
After applying security updates for the PHP2Shell flaw, the majority of Nepalese government websites are back online, though a few portals remain down.
Following the discovery of a serious PHP2Shell vulnerability, Nepal's government temporarily shut down many online services as a precaution. The Software Development and Operation Centre reported that central security patches have now been installed across the shared Government Integrated Website Management System, reviving most of the affected portals. Kiran Timilsina, CEO of the SDOC, said the restoration is ongoing and that some sites managed by external vendors are still offline.
Shivaji Kumar Gupta Rauniyar from the Integrated Data Management Centre confirmed that the majority of agency websites are live and that further restorations are proceeding based on agency requests. However, the Medical Education Commission’s site and the citizen-facing Nagarik App continue to experience outages.
Why it matters
Restoring government websites ensures public access to essential services and reduces cyber-risk exposure.
