Most People Try to Secure Their Future with Small Everyday Habits

A poll of 2,000 adults shows 77% believe in early-stage habits to help their future selves, though many find long-term planning difficult.

In a recent OnePoll survey of 2,000 adults, 77% endorsed the mantra that early habits protect future wellbeing, and many already act on it. Nearly half build loyalty points with preferred brands, and over a third plan meals to cut waste and costs. Some consider switching banks (23%) or rounding up purchases (17%) to boost savings.

However, 60% admit that thinking far ahead is challenging, especially due to surprise expenses, though 28% rely on technology to monitor spending. The poll also highlighted winter concerns, with 63% worried about energy bills and 84% taking steps such as early gift buying or emergency savings. Experts like Anthea Turner and Victoria Bacon emphasized that modest, practical changes—like smart meters or early shopping—can add up over time.
