Mother and Daughter Claim Arena Security Forced Them to Hide Their XX-XY Shirts at WNBA Game
A mother and her daughter say security at an Atlanta WNBA match told them to cover their XX-XY Athletics shirts or be removed from the arena.
At a recent Women’s National Basketball Association contest between the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever, a Georgia mother named Casey and her daughter Annie said arena security instructed them to hide their XX-XY Athletics t-shirts or face ejection. They were provided with replacement shirts during overtime and told to zip up their jackets, a directive they described as unjust. The duo claimed they simply attended the game to watch Sophie Cunningham and spent $1,000 each on tickets.
They also noted a “Protect Trans Rights” message displayed on the Jumbotron, which they said prompted the security action. XX-XY Athletics posted a video of the incident, reiterating its stance that biological sex should determine participation in women’s sports. The Fever won the game 95-91, while the controversy adds to ongoing debates over transgender inclusion in athletics.
