Mother and Daughter Sentenced After Police Find Filthy Home Housing Over 30 Animals
Police entered a Glomdalen home wearing gas masks, discovered more than 30 neglected animals and convicted the mother and daughter for serious animal-welfare violations.
During a welfare inspection in a Glomdalen residence, police were forced to wear gas masks due to overwhelming ammonia odor and filth covering much of the interior. Investigators uncovered over 30 animals - two dogs, a rabbit, eleven kittens and 19 cats - living in unsanitary conditions, with sick animals left untreated and insufficient bedding. The court convicted the mother and her daughter of serious violations of the animal-welfare law, sentencing the daughter to 30 days in jail and the mother to 18 days, each with a two-year probation period.
A rabbit and two kittens were euthanised on site, while the remaining animals were given food and water. The prosecution sought to ban the daughter from ever owning animals again, but the judge declined. The case underscores Norway's strict enforcement of animal-welfare standards.
