Mother Blames Daycare Negligence for Toddler's Death After Amber Necklace Incident

A Southern California mother says her 18-month-old son died at a daycare after a Baltic amber teething necklace caused strangulation.

In October 2016, a mother in Southern California left her 18-month-old son, Deacon, at a highly recommended daycare. After hearing sirens, she learned fire personnel had to cut a Baltic amber teething necklace from his neck, which bore a strangulation mark. Investigations revealed the daycare had prior violations and continued operating. The mother filed lawsuits, learned the necklace posed hidden risks, and has since become a certified child-safety educator, advocating for better parental awareness and safer childcare practices.
