Mother describes shattered life after 7-year-old killed in Huddersfield crash

Emergency crews were called to Longfield Avenue in Golcar after a BMW X4 driven by Nathan Shaw struck seven-year-old Jack Rooke, who later died despite medical efforts. Shaw, a 35-year-old Huddersfield resident, was detained at the scene and subsequently charged following an investigation by the Major Collision Enquiry Team. He pleaded guilty to causing death while uninsured and to two counts of perverting the course of justice, resulting in a 42-month custodial sentence and a 57-month driving disqualification imposed by Leeds Crown Court.

In a victim impact statement, Jack’s mother expressed how his death has devastated the family, noting the difficulty of caring for his sisters, including Mya, who lost her best friend. Detective Sergeant Nina Roper, who led the inquiry, called the loss of the young boy a tragic event for the community.
