Erika’s lawyer maintains the incident was an accidental reflex response when a water-heater in their rented flat failed with a loud noise, causing her to lose control of the tap. Officials interpret the act as deliberate, yet the defence highlights the chaotic circumstances and a possible technical fault.
The boy is currently living at home, and the mother’s counsel, Unti Roland, is urging the court to appoint an independent forensic expert to reassess the evidence. Earlier hearings revealed no mechanical defect in the boiler, though a recording from a bakery suggests the equipment has been unreliable since the new tenant moved in. The case is set to continue with witness testimony on the upcoming court date.
