Mother of slain student blasts Democratic lawmakers over sanctuary policy hearing

During a congressional hearing on sanctuary city legislation, Jessica Anne Gorman testified about the March 2026 killing of her 18-year-old daughter, Sheridan Gorman, who was shot while visiting friends near a Chicago pier. The suspect, Jose Medina, a Venezuelan national who entered the United States illegally, has been charged with murder. Gorman condemned Democratic members, saying Rep. Pramila Jayapal laughed and suggested other priorities while limiting families’ remarks, and she alleged Rep. Jerry Nadler nodded off.
High-ranking officials, including Attorney General Todd Blanche, FBI Director Kash Patel, Border Czar Tom Homan and Drug Czar Sara Carter, were present to honor victims of violent crime. Fellow bereaved parent Stephen Federico also spoke, blaming systemic failures for the release of career criminal Alexander Dickey, who killed his son Logan Federico. The hearing highlighted deep partisan divides over immigration enforcement and public safety concerns.
