Mother of three killed when trench for septic tank collapses in County Limerick

Elizabeth “Liz” Lynch, a mother of three from the Newcastle West area, was killed when a trench being excavated for a septic tank collapsed at a site near Kilmeedy, County Limerick. Gardaí responded to the “fatal workplace incident” and, despite assistance from bystanders, declared her dead at the scene. The case has been referred to the Health and Safety Authority, which has opened an investigation into the circumstances.

Councillor Adam Teskey said the accident has left the locality in deep mourning and expressed sympathy for Lynch’s family. Lynch was active in coaching young girls and was a member of Monagea Ladies Gaelic Football Club, which, along with Newcastle West Town FC, halted all activities over the weekend as a mark of respect.
