Mother recounts traumatic birth, sepsis scare and lasting fear of medical care

A new mother describes a complicated delivery, emergency C-section, and her newborn’s severe sepsis that required a rapid readmission.

Induced at 38 weeks due to gestational diabetes, the mother faced a difficult labor that escalated to an emergency C-section after fetal distress and a period of septic shock for herself. She was discharged the next day while her newborn seemed healthy, but the baby soon turned purple, stopped breathing, and showed a critically low temperature and blood sugar, leading to an emergency readmission for sepsis. Intensive care involved antibiotics and resuscitation, and the infant eventually recovered, though the parents describe lingering anxiety and postpartum mental-health struggles.

The ordeal has caused the couple to abandon plans for additional children, fearing further risk. Despite the trauma, the baby is now thriving, reaching milestones early and displaying a lively personality.
