Mother returns to Tenerife for documentary, reveals police showed her son's body photos

Debbie Duncan, 57, returned to Tenerife’s Rural de Teno national park with her son’s uncle Glen Duncan to film a Channel 5 documentary that follows Jay Slater’s final steps before his fatal fall. She revealed that, during a visit to retrieve her son’s phone and legal documents, Spanish police showed her photographs of Jay’s body, a moment she described as heart-stopping. The documentary includes commentary from pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd, who explained that the head injury was so severe it would have killed Jay instantly, leaving no chance of pain.

The official Spanish post-mortem and a subsequent Home Office report both attribute his death to a heavy fall into an 82-foot ravine, dismissing claims of assault or restraint. Despite the findings, online trolls continue to spread conspiracy theories and harass the family, prompting Debbie to campaign for legislation to curb such abuse. The film airs on Channel 5 at 9 pm on Wednesday.
