Moulton urges Democrats to craft laws protecting trans health and employment
Senate hopeful Seth Moulton called on Democratic leaders to introduce legislation that safeguards transgender healthcare and workplace rights.
On a televised interview, Senate candidate Seth Moulton argued that Democrats should stop shying away from discussions about transgender athletes and instead draft laws that protect trans individuals’ health care and employment. He accused the party of being more concerned with avoiding offense than solving problems, noting that only anti-LGBTQ bills have emerged from Republicans, which he has opposed. Moulton cited his perfect rating from the Human Rights Campaign, his advocacy for transgender service members on the Armed Services Committee, and the impact of the 988 mental-health hotline for LGBTQ youth.
He also warned that the Trump administration is attempting to roll back these protections. Expanding the critique, he said Democratic inaction on immigration has given Republicans a weaponized issue, urging the party to demonstrate real leadership on multiple fronts.
Why it matters
Transgender rights hinge on new laws; Democratic action could secure health care and job security for a vulnerable group.
