Mount Ciremai fire contained after multi-day effort across several park blocks
A blaze that started on September 7 in Singkup Village and spread across multiple blocks of Mount Ciremai National Park was fully extinguished by the afternoon of September 9.
A wildfire ignited at 12:05 p.m. on September 7 in Singkup Village within Mount Ciremai National Park after residents reported smoke and the park’s unmanned aerial patrol detected the blaze. The fire quickly moved through the Simaung, Tegal Bodas, Cileutik, Jalan Maling Situmpuk and Panjakroma blocks, fueled by dry leaf litter, thick undergrowth and gusty winds that caused several reignitions. Responders from the park agency and partner units used a combination of hand tools and machinery to combat the flames, followed by extensive mop-up work to eliminate remaining hotspots.
By 3:51 p.m. on September 9, officials confirmed that all hotspots had been fully extinguished. Toni Anwar, head of the Mount Ciremai National Park Agency, urged locals to stay alert and report any signs of smoke to safeguard the mountain’s biodiversity. Data show that fires in the park from late July through September have burned roughly 97.32 hectares in total.
