Mozilla adds native ad-blocking to Firefox for iPhone users

Mozilla has rolled out a built-in ad-blocking feature for Firefox on iOS, letting users block most third-party ads and trackers.

After a period of testing, Mozilla has introduced native ad-blocking for its Firefox browser on iOS devices. Leveraging Apple’s WebKit Content Blocker technology and the EasyList filter list, the feature blocks the majority of third-party advertisements and tracking scripts before they load, reducing data usage and decluttering pages. Users must enable the setting manually under Settings > Browsing > Ad blocker, though it can be switched on or off for individual sites via the site menu.

The blocker leaves untouched ads that are embedded directly by the visited website, search-result ads, and sponsored shortcuts that appear on new-tab screens. This marks Firefox’s debut with integrated ad-blocking on iOS, joining other browsers like Brave, Vivaldi and Opera that already provide comparable tools.

Why it matters

It gives iPhone users a native way to reduce unwanted ads and tracking without extra extensions.
