MP Lim Lip Eng pressures police to keep suspects in Malaysia for Durian Tunggal inquest

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng pressed the police to secure the presence of officers implicated in the Durian Tunggal shooting throughout the forthcoming inquest, after the Attorney-General’s Chambers mandated the proceeding two months ago. He referenced the police's August 10 notice that they would seek an inquest application, expressing concern that the suspects might abscond, similar to a recent armed robbery case in Kuala Lumpur where six foreigners were charged in absentia.

Lim suggested legal measures such as passport surrender orders or travel restrictions to prevent any departure. The victims—M Puspanathan (21), T Poovaneswaran (24) and G Logeswaran (29)—were shot dead on Nov 24 following an alleged assault on a police officer with a parang. Initially investigated under Section 307 for attempted murder, the case was reclassified as murder by the AGC in December, and investigation papers have been resubmitted multiple times. The AGC ordered an inquest on July 20 to determine the circumstances of the deaths and any criminal involvement.
