MP Mahua Moitra petitions Supreme Court over midnight eviction from Nadia Circuit House

Mahua Moitra, a member of the Trinamool Congress, approached the Supreme Court alleging that the Nadia district administration evicted her from the official constituency accommodation at the Circuit House in the dead of night, contravening a High Court protective order. In her petition, she highlighted that the eviction occurred at 11 p.m. after she had been allotted a room earlier that evening and was served dinner. The Supreme Court panel, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, was asked to list the plea for an early hearing, citing constitutional issues of federalism and the need for an independent probe.

Moitra also appealed to opposition MPs and leaders, noting the presence of a large crowd shouting “Jai Shree Ram” outside the premises. The counsel emphasized that the case involves an Article 32 petition by a sitting MP, underscoring its legal significance.
