Muddy dog stays put at flood-ruined Trishuli Bazaar home

In the wake of last week’s flood that swept away a row of four houses in Trishuli Bazaar, a black-and-white dog has refused to leave the spot where one of the homes once stood. Volunteer relief worker Bikram Thapa reported that attempts to coax the animal with biscuits and pet names were ignored, and its collar remains intact. Sunil Tamang, involved in debris removal, said the dog stayed motionless even as JCB excavators operated just metres away.

Community animal rescuer Rita Gurung now places dry rations and water for the dog, which only eats when the site is quiet. Displaced resident Maya Adhikari explained that most local dogs fled to higher ground, but this one stayed, viewing the ruined yard as its territory. Shopkeeper Dinesh Basyal added that neighbors, despite losing their own homes, are keeping an eye on the animal, recognizing its attachment to the lost property.
